In Entertainment Weekly, Mindy Kaling dishes on how NOT to alienate your audience with mean humor when writing comedy. I think she rather nails it; this is good advice for sketching believable characters in general.
I actually haven’t watched much of her show. I’d speculate about the lack of diversity, but we all know that scripted shows with too many people of color on them only belong on BET, TVOne and Centric because they’re not fit for the general population. -_-
